About KitKatClub

KitKatClub in Berlin is a multi-room dance venue with capacity unlisted publicly, three dance floors, an outdoor area and a pool: a circuit of distinct spaces within one club night. Founded amid Kreuzberg’s 1994 techno surge, it now operates in Mitte and pairs electronic music with fetish and sex-positive party formats. The practical differentiator is a strict, style-conscious door policy, so the advertised bill alone never guarantees entry or the room mix awaiting inside.

Four addresses and a lease scare

Simon Thaur, an Austrian pornographic filmmaker, and Kirsten Krüger started KitKatClub in March 1994 at Kreuzberg’s former Turbine, combining Goa and classical trance with influences from Goa beach parties and SM clubs. Moves followed: Neues Schauspielhaus at Nollendorfplatz in 1999, the Malzfabrik in 2001, then the Brückenstraße site in July 2007. The present rooms occupy the former Walfisch, associated with Berlin after-hours in the period following the Wall’s fall.

A property dispute supplied its sharpest recent turning point. In late 2019, Sage, which shared the premises, had received lease termination with a June 2020 deadline; KitKat operated as subtenant. By December, the building manager said negotiations for a new agreement were underway, while Clubcommission said KitKat itself had received no termination. Parties continued through a dispute that exposed the layered tenancy behind the current address.

A night arranged in zones

Expect DJ-led nights centered on techno and house, with recurring formats including Electric Monday, Tango Rouge and Nachspiel. The setting uses an industrial shell, ultraviolet installations and fluorescent paintings, with bars, alcoves, separate rooms, an outdoor area and pool dispersed around the dance floors. For concert-minded visitors, KitKat suits theme-specific late-night programming: each promoter can reshape the musical focus, crowd and access across the venue’s rooms.
