About Fournos by TerzoMondo

Fournos by TerzoMondo is a 75-capacity concert room tucked behind the Terzo Mondo restaurant near Berlin’s Savignyplatz. Its calling card is literal: the performance space occupies a former bakery, whose tile floor dates to the room’s last bakery use in 1950 and emerged during a later renovation. The result is a dinner-and-show-scale room, where live music shares a home with a long-running Greek tavern and gallery tradition.

A bakery floor becomes a stage

Terzo Mondo began in 1972, when Kostas Papanastasiou took over the tavern and gave Greek opponents of the military junta a gathering place in West Berlin. In 1982, he and his wife Monika converted a large storage room into Galerie Terzo, creating the cultural space from which the current room grew. Marc-Alexey Papanastasiou took over the family business in 2017 and reshaped the gallery as Fournos, a venue for concerts, exhibitions and film. The renovation brought the stage forward and uncovered the old tile floor beneath carpet, linoleum and a thick concrete layer; the tiles were restored. Fournos takes its name from the Greek word for an oven and from the village bakery. Its first year as a stage, gallery and cinema brought 96 concerts, four exhibition openings and ten film screenings.

The room today

The program runs to about 150 concerts each year, with jazz, improvised music, rock and global music at its core, plus comedy and readings. A stage, backline and seated setup suit listening-focused sets; an independent account describes a tiny rear room with notably strong acoustics. The restaurant supplies the broader evening: Greek food, wine and cocktails sit alongside the performance offer. Fournos fits audiences who want close-range musicianship and a social, table-adjacent concert setting.
