Festsaal Kreuzberg

Festsaal Kreuzberg is a 1,500-standing Berlin venue whose current home, a listed hall on the Arena site, combines a full-scale concert room with smaller spaces and a beer garden. Its defining detail sits in the name: the club began near Kottbusser Tor, burned out in 2013, then reopened at Am Flutgraben in 2017 while retaining its Kreuzberg identity. Expect a flexible large-room setting suited to bills that stretch beyond one stage or one genre.

A name carried through the fire

At the start of the 2000s, a former vegetable market near Kottbusser Tor became a wedding hall used for Turkish, Indian, and Nigerian family celebrations. In 2004, an association of event organizers took control, retaining family events through 2007 while adding indie-rock concerts, techno parties, readings, and political discussions. A technical defect caused a July 2013 fire that gutted the original hall. The operators pursued a rebuild with support from Berlin’s cultural scene, while the property owner sought an office development. In 2017, the team secured its new rooms on the Arena site in Alt-Treptow; the old Skalitzer Straße space later returned to use as a wedding hall. That rupture explains the venue’s unusual combination of long-running Kreuzberg programming and a newer, substantially larger physical home.

The room now

Festsaal Kreuzberg books pop, punk, jazz, reggae, electronic, and experimental music alongside talks, conferences, readings, company events, and award ceremonies. For a concert crowd, the practical headline is scale: the 506-square-metre Saal has a 700-person standing capacity and a five-metre ceiling, while the 1,200-square-metre beer garden can hold 500 standing guests. An integrated stage, in-house technical staff, and additional rooms give promoters scope for day-into-night festivals, club bills, and seated presentations.
