Cassiopeia

Cassiopeia is a 270-capacity concert club in Berlin-Friedrichshain, set within the former railway-workshop grounds of RAW. Its defining detail sits beside the stage: the club grew from a skate-hall project, and the wider site still joins live music with skating, climbing and a summer garden. For concertgoers, that makes Cassiopeia feel like one stop inside a working youth-culture compound, with a focused room for gigs and a lively outdoor orbit around it.

Built around ramps and reinvention

Cassiopeia dates its life as a club and concert venue to 2005, in an industrial hall on the RAW grounds. The project began with a search for space for a skate hall: a 2008 Tagesspiegel report described two young owners building ramps, plumbing and bars themselves, then adding a café, club, climbing tower and beer garden as the project expanded. The result gave the venue an unusually practical origin story: parties helped finance the materials needed for the skate operation. In July 2020, the connected Skatehalle Berlin entered a new chapter under the charitable Skate RAW gGmbH, formed by Drop In e.V., the 1. Berliner Skateboardverein and Cassiopeia Club. Cassiopeia remains a co-owner in that model, tying the music venue to a reinvestment-led skate facility.

The room and the programme

Expect a flexible, cross-genre calendar: Cassiopeia presents concerts alongside hip-hop sets, 1980s and 1990s nights, indie-pop parties, punk-leaning bookings and mixed-format events. The club describes a three-floor party setup, while its concert capacity tops out at 270, so gigs land at close range instead of arena scale. A connected summer garden adds an outdoor pause before or after a show; the wider venue site also lists bars, cloakroom facilities and three configurable rooms for events.
