About b-flat
b-flat is a 300-capacity acoustic-music and jazz club in Berlin’s Mitte district. Its clearest calling card is Robin’s Nest, a Wednesday jam hosted by Canadian bassist Robin Draganić since 1999, with a changing cast and a public platform for musicians. That regular, alongside a program of about 310 concerts each year, makes b-flat a working room for discovery as well as a place to catch established players.
A forced move, then a fresh room
In 1995, musicians Jannis and Thanassis Zotos joined actor André Hennicke to found b-flat, and architect Claudius Pratsch helped shape a room intended to give acoustics equal weight with design. Jörg Zieprig joined in 1997 and took on programming as the club developed a calendar full of live music. The pivotal chapter came in 2016. After 21 years at Rosenthaler Straße 13, the building’s owners declined to renew the lease. A June 19 farewell closed that chapter; b-flat resumed at Dircksenstraße 40 on July 15. The club crossed Mitte after a brief interruption, carrying its founders’ open-ended approach to jazz into a new address.
The room and the booking philosophy
b-flat books across jazz styles, alongside funk, R&B, soul and world music, at about 310 concerts each year. Its 300-person capacity gives the venue a dedicated concert-room scale, while Pratsch’s acoustic-focused design remains part of its identity; the club also operates with a cocktail-bar character. Wednesday’s Robin’s Nest begins at 9 p.m. and uses its changing-session format to introduce players and projects. The strongest fit is a listener who enjoys improvisation, regular local talent, and a program that leaves genre borders loose.
