About ://about blank
://about blank is a 500-capacity club and cultural center beside Ostkreuz in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district. Its defining feature is the collective model: the venue pairs late-night electronic music with queer parties, live and performance work, readings, discussions and benefit events. Summer brings the Sektgarten, an outdoor extension with a bar, pizza, table tennis and calmer corners away from the dancefloor.
From off-space to collective club
The story began before the official 2010 opening. The site had operated as an off-space, hosting illegal underground raves before the collective turned it into a techno club and cultural center. The founders came out of Germany’s radical left, and the venue’s structure still reflects that starting point: it operates as a cooperative, with a standard hourly wage across roles and revenue directed to wages and reinvestment. In 2021, a long-running relationship with the Buttons crew, previously called Homopatik, ended amid a public dispute around the club’s political position; the venue says subsequent DJ cancellations led to two planned queer-feminist parties falling through that July. The episode captures a place where programming, collective governance and political arguments remain closely connected.
The room and the bill
Expect techno and house as the musical center, with experimental club music, concerts, live sets and performance folded into a broader cultural schedule. External promoters substantially shape the program, while the club describes a queer-feminist booking approach and seeks lineups beyond exclusively white, cis-male bills. Inside, Berlin.de describes dark, techno-focused floors; outside, the spacious garden adds an open-air stage and bar during warmer months. For concert-goers, that creates a flexible setting: focused indoor listening and dancing, plus an outdoor place to reset between sets.
