About The 04 Center

The 04 Center in Austin is a fully seated, 370-capacity listening room inside a 1960s A-frame church. Its key distinction is structural as much as musical: concerts unfold in the former sanctuary, with comfortable seating, clear sightlines, and a 70-seat balcony. For audiences who want to hear a set through instead of navigating a standing-room crowd, that format gives the room its character.

A church takes an after-dark turn

The building began as Faith United Methodist Church in 1968. In January 2018, it became home to Austin New Church and adopted the name The 04 Center, drawn from South Austin’s “78704” shorthand; the venue operation sits alongside continuing church and community use. Austin Community Foundation describes the 2018 transition as a sale that led to investment in sound, lighting, and local expertise for the music room.

Its early concert identity arrived quickly. On May 31, 2019, Vieux Farka Touré and Austin guitarist Jackie Venson played a show presented as the room’s christening, a fitting opening signal for a calendar built around musicianship and attentive listening. Three weeks later, Rickie Lee Jones played a two-hour concert there on June 23, 2019, a night covered as a particularly strong match between artist and new South Austin setting. Those 2019 reports captured the venue’s central proposition: touring names and local players in a compact room made for songs, solos, and the spaces between them.

The room now

In-House Presents LLC manages the property and presents its events, while the venue states a platform for all styles of music and entertainment. The calendar leans heavily toward singer-songwriters, folk, Americana, country, indie rock, R&B, and eclectic full-band bills, with occasional comedy and spoken-word-adjacent programming. Every show is all ages. Seating is general-admission by section, with VIP nearest the stage and balcony seats offered on a first-arrival basis; a full bar operates for concert nights.
