About Radio Coffee & Beer (East)
Radio/East, Radio Coffee & Beer’s southeast Austin outpost, is a 2,500-capacity outdoor concert venue with an all-day espresso bar. Its defining feature is scale without leaving the café format behind: three stages sit across a landscaped acre, while food trucks, cocktails, beer, and coffee keep the grounds active before doors and between sets.
From renovated house to concert field
Radio began in 2014, when musician Jack Wilson and his father, Greg Wilson, opened Radio Coffee & Beer in a renovated 1940s house on Menchaca Road. Jack returned to Austin after work in Seattle’s specialty-coffee scene, and the original operation combined house-roasted coffee, local craft beer, food trucks, and live music. That formula gained a much larger footprint on October 18, 2023, when Radio/East opened at 3504 Montopolis Drive. The Austin Chronicle reported that Wilson and general manager Trey Hudson brought Rick Pierik of Nine Mile Records and Nine Mile Touring into the ownership group to strengthen music-venue operations across indoor and outdoor stages. Radio’s own account describes the new property as a nearly two-acre live-music site, a deliberate move from neighborhood hangout toward full touring production.
The room today
Radio/East takes live-music inquiries through a dedicated East booking form and presents a broad bill mix that includes electronic, indie and alternative rock, metal, country, folk, and pop. The main outdoor stage holds 2,500; a covered 40-by-30-foot pavilion holds 1,000; and the indoor stage holds 100. Expect an open-air, standing-forward show setting, with 13 points of sale, an outdoor air-conditioned restroom building, and food trucks close to the performance area.
