Emo's

Emo’s is a roughly 1,500-capacity concert hall on Austin’s East Riverside, playing its final season under that name at 2015 East Riverside Drive. C3 Presents and Live Nation say the Emo’s brand will leave the building in December 2026; AEG Presents plans sound, lighting, bar, and dressing-room upgrades before reopening the room under a new name in February 2027. A club name changes rooms

Eric “Emo” Hartman opened Emo’s Austin in May 1992 in a former country-and-western bar on Sixth Street, inheriting wagon wheels and animal heads along with a rough-edged part of downtown. The club grew from Hartman’s Houston operation, which had begun in a decommissioned orphanage in 1989.

The original Sixth Street property sold in 2011, ending the downtown run and sending the name to East Riverside’s former Back Room. The move brought together the Back Room’s metal history and Emo’s punk, alternative, and indie identity in a larger room that opened that year.

Ownership changed again on February 11, 2013, when Frank Hendrix sold the business to C3 Presents after weeks of negotiations. C3’s Charles Attal described the booking approach simply: artists suited to the room’s scale would play it, across styles. That broad remit still explains why Emo’s calendar spans guitar music, rap, electronic bills, pop, R&B, jazz, and Latin events.

The room on a show night

Expect a general-admission setup: most concerts offer standing room and first-come seating, with a reserved ADA area. The 6,500-square-foot building centers on a flexible Music Hall, with three bars flanking the room and an outdoor patio available before or around the show. The venue also sells private-event rentals for groups of 250 to 1,250, a useful clue to its adaptable floor plan. Arrive early if an accessible viewing position or a particular spot on the floor matters.
