Central Machine Works Brewery

Central Machine Works Brewery is an East Austin beer hall and live-music space with capacity for up to 1,200 standing guests across its indoor and outdoor areas. Its distinguishing feature is the building itself: a 1940 former fabrication shop whose original machine parts and industrial details remain in view. Concerts can feel like a neighborhood gathering inside a working-scale structure, with brewing, food, a full bar, and a beer garden sharing the site.

A factory floor finds its second act

The address began in 1940 as Capital Machine Works, a custom metal-fabrication facility that produced airplane parts during World War II and continued making metal components until its 2016 closure. Partners John Scott, Rosa and Pete Santis, Andrew Ashmore, and Aaron Ashmore worked with Kartwheel’s David Clark to remake the property, preserving the façade, fixtures, and metalworking machinery as part of the new brewpub’s design. Central Machine Works opened on November 15, 2019, placing its beer hall and garden inside that restored industrial shell.

Music has a defined place in the conversion: the garden includes a stage, while the 2026 calendar has paired local bills with public-facing projects. On July 26, 2026, the Music Moves Mountains Foundation brought its All Abilities Rock Music Fest here, with Eddie Ray Band, Yesterday & Today, and Blue Mist playing a free afternoon program for artists with disabilities and neurodivergence. That type of community event explains the room’s appeal more clearly than a long roll call of bookings.

Beer hall scale, open-air shows

CMW’s music programming spans electronic DJs, indie and alternative bands, rock, pop, country, jazz, and R&B-adjacent local bills. Its Live at Central series uses free RSVP entry, welcomes all ages, and directs a portion of drink sales toward nonprofit partners; other dates arrive through outside promoters, and full-property private events can close the venue to public visitors. Expect an open-concept beer hall, a taproom, and a broad beer garden with indoor and outdoor stages, A/V, house beer, cocktails, and food available on site.
