About Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden

Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden in Austin is a roughly 700-person live-music restaurant and beer garden, spread across an outdoor area listed for 400 and a private-event space listed for 300. Its distinguishing feature is scale with a casual show format: a stage serves a yard and porches while the food-and-drink operation runs alongside it. Expect a freewheeling patio set built around sausages and draft beer, with tables sharing the action.

A Rainey Street Build-Out, Then a Hard Pause

In 2012, owner Ben Siegel and executive chef Ted Prater opened Banger’s on Rainey Street, a district where old homes had been converted into businesses. Its July 30 opening arrived with 103 taps and a beer garden that included an off-leash dog park. By 2018, the operation had expanded into a three-story building and added a smokehouse. In June 2020, after closing before Austin’s shelter-in-place order, Banger’s remained shut during the first state bar reopening; Siegel told Austin Business Journal he was avoiding the rolling reopen-and-close cycle and described a roughly $1 million hole. Its current rhythm came into focus on August 1, 2026, when the fourteenth-anniversary party offered free admission, live music all day, and a headlining slot for Kathleen Turner Overdrive. Restaurant scale and local-band programming meet here in the same yard.

How the Room Works

Programming centers Americana and country, with bluegrass, rockabilly, brass, Zydeco, rhythm and blues also appearing during themed weekends. For partial buyouts, Banger’s requires band approval and steers music toward country, bluegrass, or rockabilly; full-venue clients have broader leeway, with an in-house engineer required. For regular shows, choose the yard or porch for a direct stage view, or use the Beer Hall, Deck, Basement, and Balcony as bases between sets. It plays as a social listening space: arrive ready to stand, eat, drink, and shift positions.
