About Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. (ABGB)

Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co., usually called ABGB, is a 299-capacity South Austin brewpub with live music built into the evening. Its defining visual is the indoor stage: performers play in front of the brewery’s fermenters, giving the room an industrial backdrop without moving the music into a separate club space. The scale suits a close crowd, pizza at communal tables, and a show that can spill into the beer-garden rhythm outside.

Beer, tracks, and a local-music mandate

ABGB began in 2012, founded in part by former Uncle Billy’s brewers Amos Lowe and Brian “Swifty” Peters. In January 2013, the team secured the West Oltorf site beside the railroad tracks, presenting beer, food, and music as the core of the project from the outset. The brewpub opened that fall on two acres; by January 2014, partner Mark Jensen was describing its 299-person room as the vehicle for a broad local-music program. Jensen’s stated aim was a home base for Austin’s many scenes, with bills free to move among styles instead of following a single genre lane. In that same interview, he recalled singing along when the Wild Seeds played, a small meeting of the room’s roots in Austin fandom and its working stage.

How the room plays

ABGB’s current calendar combines local bands with community fundraisers, beer releases, and other gatherings, so concertgoers should expect a brewery that programs music as part of a wider social schedule. Rock, folk, and bluegrass appear among the styles associated with the venue, while its earlier booking vision embraced wider local scenes. Inside, the stage and fermenter wall anchor a large-table room; outdoors, the patio and beer garden extend the hangout before or after a set. House beer remains central, with cocktails also on the bar.
