Nitzer Ebb anchors Metro’s late-August run of punk, psych and post-punk history

Six dates on Clark Street connect industrial music, punk, psych rock and the Joy Division–New Order catalog.

Nitzer Ebb arrives at Metro on Saturday, August 22, with Dopplereffekt and Rhys Fulber on the bill. Doors are scheduled for 7 p.m. and the 18+ show begins at 8 p.m. The industrial-focused night falls between Eagles of Death Metal on August 21 and Pond on August 27. Across one week, the club moves through punk-rooted bookings, electronic body music, psych rock and post-punk repertory.^[1][3]

Three generations of electronic pressure

Nitzer Ebb brings more than four decades of recorded history to the stage. Mute Records traces the group’s beginning to Chelmsford, Essex, in 1982, and says its early tracks reached label founder Daniel Miller. That Total Age arrived on Mute in 1987, carrying “Murderous,” “Join in the Chant” and “Let Your Body Learn.” The label’s account places that release at the opening of a catalog that later included Belief, Showtime, Ebbhead and Big Hit.^[4]

Dopplereffekt and Rhys Fulber give the August bill a wider electronic frame. Mute also identifies Nitzer Ebb’s 2010 album Industrial Complex and describes the group’s influence across electronic producers and rock bands. The Metro lineup connects the foundational 1980s material with artists from later waves of electronic music.^[1][4]

Five nights, several lineages

Metro has five distinct late-August bookings listed across six dates. Ink & Dagger leads off the stretch on August 20 with Self Defense Family, Stress Positions and Slow Mass. Eagles of Death Metal follows on August 21, then Nitzer Ebb arrives August 22 with Dopplereffekt and Rhys Fulber. Pond is scheduled for August 27, followed by Peter Hook & The Light on August 28 and 29.^[3]

The Peter Hook & The Light run carries a specific program: New Order’s Get Ready plus selections from Joy Division and New Order. The sequence moves from punk into an industrial-centered bill, then toward Pond’s psych rock and two evenings rooted in the Manchester catalogs that reshaped post-punk. The bookings make sense individually and reward a second look as a six-date run.^[3]

Clark Street has seen this before

Metro operates under a nearly century-old roof at 3730 N. Clark Street, two blocks north of Wrigley Field. Its history describes founder Joe Shanahan returning from New York and London with an “act local, think global” philosophy. The venue story includes major touring acts, developing local artists and an early last-minute R.E.M. show.^[2][5]

That history includes Chicago associations with Smashing Pumpkins, Alkaline Trio, Fall Out Boy and Chance the Rapper. The late-August 2026 calendar continues Metro’s habit of placing different scenes on consecutive nights.
